Case studies

Our technical support for manufacturers is delivered with 100% confidentiality – meaning each of these case studies must remain confidential too. However, each example refers to a genuine technology manufacturer benefiting from Qcom outsourced technical support.

Focusing Resources

A global inkjet coding manufacturer outsourced all return-to-base and preventative maintenance work to the Qcom team, freeing up its own engineers to focus on bespoke technical solutions.

A thermal printer manufacturer was able to respond to a defective components issue by commissioning Qcom to replace parts on a large number of thermal printers, leaving its own engineers free to maintain existing contractual relationships.

Increasing Sales

By outsourcing its European return-to-base warranty operation to Qcom, a leading thermal ticket printer manufacturer has improved service levels and in turn driven measurable sales growth.

Saving Money

A range of new handheld units has been launched into the European market, backed by Qcom warranty support service. This has allowed the US manufacturer to go to market with a full-service offering from the outset.

A manufacturer of combined scanners and printers has been able to implement a cost-effective rework project by commissioning Qcom. We reworked 900 hand-held units in just 10 days. including re-flashing the EPROM and upgrading hardware. As well as supplying the engineering know-how, Qcom also supplied all logistics, customer liaison, admin and project management.

Enhancing Service

Over an 18 month period, we upgraded 2,500 battery packs for a manufacturer in batches of approximately 150. The upgrade included component level and mechanical part replacement, and the logistics involved shipment from several European countries to Qcom’s Technical Resource Centre in Droitwich, Worcestershire.

An equipment manufacturer with its own team of in-house engineers has increased its capacity and after-sales service capability across the UK by outsourcing excess workload to Qcom.

Rapid Response

We provided a leading reseller with the scale to deliver the commissioning and installation of 162 PCs and 1100 Motorola hand-held terminals (HHTs) across 125 UK sites, in just seven weeks.

Our engineers commissioned each of the PCs with Microsoft XP image and bespoke stock control software in our workshops.

Our professional services engineers then managed the installation of the PCs and HHTs, including the customisation of each site for connection to WAN.

We also arranged the collection and disposal (under the WEEE directive) of old PCs.

Extending Reach

Sciamed, a leading provider of barcoding and Auto ID equipment to the NHS, has appointed technical outsourcers, Qcom, to manage its customer after-sales support.

The three-year contract will see Qcom delivering a range of services for Sciamed, including commissioning and installing equipment, on site and workshop repairs, training and RF site surveys across the UK and Ireland.

The deal is expected to deliver a number of benefits for Sciamed and its customers. First and foremost, it will allow Sciamed to provide a faster service and help extend its reach across a growing national customer footprint. It will also offer Sciamed an engineering skill-base across a greater range of printer types, and provide additional technical resources to service the company’s maintenance contracts.
