Flexibility drives outsourcing success for Markem-Imaje

Markem-Imaje is a highly trusted and respected manufacturer of product ID and traceability solutions, offering a full range of innovative and reliable inkjet, thermal transfer, laser, print and apply label systems.

Worldwide, the company works with some 30 subsidiaries to provide more than 40,000 customers with optimal product marking and coding solutions.

In the UK, Markem-Imaje works with Qcom for flexible and responsive engineering support.

Martin Bailey, Markem-Imaje UK Operations Manager, said that the initial prompt for establishing the relationship was “to create flexibility and provide our customers with the best possible service.”

He explained: “We have a strong team of our own engineers as well as a full help desk facility in the UK, but customer demand is not always predictable either in terms of time or geography.

“I could employ more engineers but you can bet the requirement won’t always fall conveniently.

“Instead, we have trained a group of Qcom engineers to meet the same requirements and standards as a Markem-Imaje engineer. We don’t use all their engineers every day but we can [and do] call on them for planned and reactive maintenance across the full range of Markem-Imaje equipment throughout the UK.

“This allows us to maintain the high levels of customer support that won us the PPMA Customer Service Award not so long ago.”
